How to Play Mahjong with Rob Chin

SUNDAY, JANUARY 25, 2026 from 2 - 4 pm
at Espacio, 105 Congress Street, Salem, MA

Mahjong is a traditional Chinese tile-based game that requires skill, strategy, and luck to win. In Hong Kong and many other parts of Asia, it’s a quintessential part of family gatherings and a popular activity for gossiping with friends and neighbors.

This beginner-friendly workshop is designed for newcomers. We’ll dive into the basics of how to play Mahjong with a focus on the standard Hong Kong-style ruleset. You’ll learn the names and values of each Mahjong tile, how to set up the wall and deal hands, and the fundamentals to forming & declaring a winning hand.

Enjoy a fun and casual atmosphere where the emphasis is on learning together! No prior experience is needed, so come relax, meet new people, and play some MJ!

Pay what you can! Our suggested sliding scale for registration is $10-20 per participant. Your contribution helps support more Lucky Knot Arts programming.
