AANHPI Book Club with Aya
The Museum of Failures by Thrity Umrigar
SUNDAY, MAY 17, 2026 from 6 - 7 pm
at Proyectos Punto, Salem, MA
In conjunction with the HOMECOMING group art exhibition at Punto Urban Art Museum and on the theme of roots, we’ll be discussing The Museum of Failures by Thrity Umrigar.
What’s the book about?
Remy left India (and his cold, distant mother) years ago. When he returns to Mumbai to adopt a baby and reconnect with his now-hospitalized mother, he discovers an old photograph that shatters everything he believed about his family. As buried secrets resurface, Remy must decide whether empathy can outlast decades of resentment, just as he stands on the threshold of parenthood himself. A moving story about regret, forgiveness, and the complicated love between parents and children.
Hmm, I’m curious — tell me more.
